iPhone 3.0 – Copy and Paste walkthrough – and Landscape keyboard!
To follow up on my first iPhone 3.0 post I’ve decided to post information about copy, paste, and landscape keyboard (in e-mail specifically).
After 3 years of begging and pleading Apple has finally given us copy and paste, and a landscape keyboard in all major applications. How does it work? Absurdly amazing. It’s nearly as simple as doing it on a keyboard. But you know…not really. However, I do think it’s simpler than doing it on a smart-phone with a physical keyboard, because you don’t have to use two fingers to activate the shortcut.
Follow these easy steps!
To bring up the copy and paste option you tap on the cursor on the screen which brings up a small pop up menu.
If you chose “Select” a small anchor will appear at that location, followed by another anchor at the end of the word. Obviously I don’t need to explain what select all does. (note: I am not sure if those things are called anchors but just go along with it. OK? Thanks)
Once you’ve selected what you want to copy and paste, you release whichever anchor you were holding. Once you let go of the anchor another pop up will appear giving you the options to copy or cut.
Once you’ve clicked to copy or cut the text is placed in the clipboard, which is global. Meaning you can copy and paste from e-mail to text message, to Safari, to Notes, or to whatever else your little heart desires. To paste something all you have to do is move the cursor to your desired location and then tap it to bring up another menu, with the options to Select, Select all, and Paste.
I am not sure why Select, Select all is giving as an option since you’re in a new line. When I clicked select it selected the word app (two lines above) and all the empty space up to the cursor; I think it does this as long as text is present. I believe had I started a blank e-mail the option to paste would have only been given. At least that’s how it was when I went into other apps (i.e. Messaging App and Notes)
Anyway. Assuming you clicked paste, the text we previously selected will appear like magic!
Wow. Sham. Bam. ShamWOW! (?).
Copy and Paste away my children.
